Work with display units on new rules | PRO HR June 2023

2023.06.29

Work is underway to amend the regulation on occupational safety and health on workstations equipped with display units dated 1 December 1998. The revised regulations are intended to take into account the technological changes that have occurred since the date of issuance of the previous act, in particular the widespread use of laptops while working.

The main tenets of the amendment include:

  • change of the definition of the workstation,
  • abandonment of the definition of the computer system,
  • introduction of requirements regarding the use of portable systems, especially laptops,
  • clarification of the minimum requirements to be met by workstations equipped with display units.

The draft regulation leaves no doubt that if a laptop is used at work, the workstation should additionally be equipped with a desktop monitor or stand to ensure that the screen is positioned so that its top edge is at the eye level, and with an additional keyboard and mouse. The above requirements may further discourage employers from agreeing to employees performing work remotely.
