This year, Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday.  According to the new regulations which came into force on 5 December 2023, Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday is a non-shopping day. However, the two Sundays preceding Christmas Eve are shopping days.

This year, the shopping Sundays are 10 and 17 December.

Employers had to provide their employees with schedules for December no later than 24 November 2023, i.e. at a time when Christmas Eve was still supposed to be a shopping Sunday.  The sudden change in the regulations is a major challenge for HR departments, which need to revise the schedules as soon as possible and communicate this information to employees in a way that allows all employees to be aware of the changes.  

A fine of between PLN 1,000 and PLN 100,000 will be imposed for breaking the Sunday trading ban.
