Employees adopting a child can take parental leave until the child is 14 years old | PRO HR February 2023

As of 1 February 2023, employees can take paternity and parental leave until the adopted child turns 14. Paternity leave can be used for 24 months after the adoption order becomes final.

An employee who has adopted a child and has applied to the court to the initiate adoption proceedings will be able to take maternity leave until the child turns 14. In the case of adoption the maternity benefit is now available until the child turns 14.

Previously, there was a limit of 7 years or, in the case of a child for whom a decision was made to postpone compulsory schooling 10 years.
