The Ministry of Education and Science has prepared a draft amendment to the Polish Language Act. 

The purpose of the changes is to reduce the waiting time for taking the exam and issuing the document, which is one of the key requirements in the procedure for applying for long-term resident status and obtaining Polish citizenship.

The solutions found in the draft include:

• expanding the group eligible to apply for a certificate without having to take an exam to include persons holding a doctoral degree on the basis of a dissertation written and defended in Polish; 
• expanding the group of entities authorized to carry out examinations;
• the possibility of exempting persons with hearing or speech impairments from the oral part of the exam;
• regulating the possibility of obtaining a duplicate certificate, which in the current situation is impossible and requires re-taking the exam or applying for a certificate without passing the exam.
