The Directive on the protection of whistleblowers protects the whistleblower who reports irregularities both inside and outside the organization.
 
If an employer or an organization fails to respond appropriately to the reported irregularities, particularly those which may affect its reputation or renown, it could face a serious reputational crisis which could spread outside.

This is why it is so important for employers to respond to the reported irregularities in an appropriate, timely and confidence-inspiring manner.
