Therefore, even companies not covered by the Act often need to investigate internal issues.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"1097\"><strong data-start=\"719\" data-end=\"751\">Who conducts investigations?<\/strong><br data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"754\" \/>Companies should formally appoint individuals or teams to handle whistleblower reports and investigations. This role typically falls to compliance officers or in-house legal teams, but HR heads, internal audit departments, or external law firms can also be tasked with it. Their responsibilities should be set out clearly in internal policies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1215\"><strong data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1136\">How are investigations conducted?<\/strong><br data-start=\"1136\" data-end=\"1139\" \/>The Act itself provides no detailed investigation procedures. Companies may:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1362\">\n<li data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1266\">\n<p data-start=\"1218\" data-end=\"1266\">Review documentation and company-owned devices<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1303\">\n<p data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1303\">Interview employees as witnesses<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1362\">\n<p data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1362\">Collect public information such as social media activity<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1364\" data-end=\"1424\">However, employers cannot access employees\u2019 private devices.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1684\"><strong data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1458\">Confidentiality requirements<\/strong><br data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1461\" \/>Maintaining confidentiality is essential. Under the Act, disclosing a whistleblower\u2019s identity to unauthorised persons may be a criminal offence. Only those specifically authorised can access data and handle investigations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1909\"><strong data-start=\"1686\" data-end=\"1708\">Reporting outcomes<\/strong><br data-start=\"1708\" data-end=\"1711\" \/>Although not legally required, preparing a written report after an investigation is recommended.
